SANTA FE, N.M. — Thornwood Gallery Santa Fe invites collectors, art enthusiasts and the community to an opening reception celebrating six distinctive contemporary artists: Pamela Sukhum, Matt Kaplinsky, Max Underwood, Roger Williams, Ivan Blagorenko and R. John Ichter.
The reception will take place Friday, September 11, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thornwood Gallery, located at 555 Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Guests are invited to enjoy an evening of art and conversation while discovering a compelling collection that brings together expressive abstraction, luminous landscapes and richly observed visual narratives.
Pamela Sukhum creates paintings distinguished by radiant color, layered texture and a warm, energetic presence. Her sweeping lines, intricate details and organic forms explore connections between the physical and spiritual worlds, resulting in compositions that feel both immediate and deeply contemplative.
Matt Kaplinsky draws inspiration from iconic still lifes and landscapes, bringing a contemporary sensibility to traditional subjects. Working in a variety of painting media, he combines detailed brushwork, atmospheric depth and storytelling to celebrate the character and expansive beauty of the American West.
Santa Fe native Max Underwood finds inspiration in the landscapes, wildlife and cultural history of the Southwest. His photographic work captures the region’s dramatic light and natural beauty while reflecting a lifelong connection to New Mexico and the environment that shaped his artistic vision.
A lifelong passion for travel and discovery informs Roger Williams’ paintings. Through his evocative use of light and atmosphere, Williams transforms places, experiences, and quiet observations into visual narratives that invite viewers to share in the journey.
Born in the former Soviet Union and exposed early to the collections of some of the world’s great museums, Ivan Blagorenko creates landscapes that balance realism with painterly expression. His distinctive approach combines masterful light and shadow, atmospheric depth and poetic observation, revealing the beauty and quiet emotional power of the natural world.
Award-winning artist R. John Ichter is recognized for vivid color, intricate texture, and evocative compositions inspired by nature. Rooted in Abstract Expressionism, his work uses intense, unexpected colors to transform familiar landscapes into immersive and imaginative experiences.
Together, these six artists offer an engaging range of perspectives, techniques and visual experiences. The exhibition creates a lively dialogue between abstraction and representation, movement and stillness, personal expression and a shared sense of place.
The opening reception offers guests an opportunity to experience the collection in Thornwood Gallery’s elegant Canyon Road setting and connect with artists, collectors and fellow art lovers during a memorable evening in Santa Fe.
