Antoni Dura presents contemporary still lifes that strategically combine elements of daily urban environments: cups, plates, cans, and tubes of paint, brushes, and chairs, all masterfully represented in a quasi-hyperrealist way. Dura “suspends” the items in a neutral and timeless space, very often equipped with a strong chromaticism analogous to that used in American Pop Art.
Harmonizing a precision in his drawings and forms, Dura contrasts light against the elements to imbue them with three-dimensionality and further heightens the effect with the colorist expressiveness in their backgrounds. The paintings transcend the mere contemplation of the artist’s work and elicit dialogue and interpretation unique to each viewer. The essence of modern art is displayed in these unique still lifes.
